Name

The Loftus Community Hall is a local landmark. The name is a play on the original name of the town. The community is located in southern Sydney, 29 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. It is part of the Sutherland Shire, a region of Sydney in New South Wales. Loftus was named after the British Governor of New South Wales, Lord Augustus William Frederick Spencer Loftus. In 1885, a railway line was built from Illawarra to Sutherland. Ten years later, the railway station was renamed Loftus. In 1979, the station was relocated to its present location.

The Town Hall is located next to St Leonards Church and overlooks the town’s Market Place. Parking is limited in the market place. The Hall is located on the ground floor, and there is also an office and ante-room on the first floor. The loftus Community Hall is home to local and regional community events. The town hall is a community hub, and is the community’s only public venue.

Sydney Tramway Museum

The oldest and largest tramway museum in the southern hemisphere is located in the southern Sydney suburb of Loftus. Tramways were once used to transport people around Sydney, and the museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. The museum is free to enter, and tours are led by volunteers who have extensive knowledge of the tramway industry. At the museum, visitors can experience the tram’s rich history, including many of its famous routes.

The history of the Tramway Museum begins in the 1950s, when it operated from a corrugated iron shed alongside the Parklink tramline. In 1988, it moved to its current premises. Today, visitors can see an extensive collection of trams, including the famous Sydney Trams. The museum also contains trams from other states, and even from other countries. The museum is open to the public and is a unique way to learn about the history of Sydney’s trams.
